Stick Stack Quilt

This weekend I finished quilting/binding the Schnibbles Full House quilt and it is proudly hanging on my office wall.

I also started this Stick Stack queen quilt (94" X 94) on Sunday and finished the top tonight. I used a burgundy/sage floral print, and accented with marbled burgundy and a leafy sage. This quilt is so easy, no seams to match. The pattern is from the Nov/Dec 2011 Quiltmaker magazine.

There is a short story behind this quilt. Two weeks ago, my mother advised a dear friend of hers wanted to know what I would charge to make a queen size quilt. Now my mother knows I do not do this because of the cost associated with making a quilt of this size, but she asked me anyway. Yesterday, what does my mother do......she gives me money for fabric for the top and asks if I would make the quilt anyway. I showed her this pattern and she loved it. I would be willing to bet when I show her this top, she is going to want to keep it for herself!

Schnibbles Full House Finished

Tonight I finished sewing this Schnibbles Full House quilt top. I plan to quilt it tomorrow and get the binding completed on Sunday while visiting with my parents. Full Houses is the first in Another Year of Schnibbles quilt along.

This picture does not show just how colorful and bright the houses are, so I took two closeups. I used one 2.5" strip from each of the Kaffee Fassett Paperweight fabrics and added scraps of Terrain charm pack. I decided on a navy blue as sashing and borders to set off the brightness of the houses. I really enjoying making this top and can't wait until February 1st to find out what the next pattern is going to be.

Two UFOs Completed!

The Saturday sew date with the DFW Quilt Gang was a lot of fun. Thanks again to Quilt Among Friends for lending us their classroom. I finally finished sewing the blocks for my Origins log cabin quilt that I have been working on for over 2 years. On Sunday, I not only quilted this log cabin quilt, but also quilted this blue/yellow Easy Peasy quilt as well. I have set a goal of quilting at least 2 quilts every weekend until I get the closet empty!

I would be amiss if I did not show you the latest photo of my darling grandbaby Reed. His hair is getting longer on top and I think his mini mohawk is adorable!

Kaffe Fassett Paperweight fabrics

When I saw the Kaffee Fassett Paperweight fabric line, I knew I had to have some of these beautiful fabrics. I found them at Fabric.com on sale and shipping is free for US orders over $35. These are three of the nine colorway half yards I purchased. I told myself I was not going to buy fabric for a while, but I just could not pass on the price. I am not sure what pattern to use for them, but keeping my eye open for something challenging.

DFW Gang Sew Date

The DFW Gang is having another sew date! We will be meeting at Quilt Among Friends in Arlington, Texas on Saturday (1/21) from 10-4. Anyone in the area is welcome to join us. I will be working on the dragon quilt for Reed, plus blocks for a king quilt for my bedroom. I found a star pattern that I really like called Stars in my Garden that I will be using to make my star blocks. I want to put them on point as well.

My SIL Chris' grandmother, Judy (Reed's great-grandmother) gave this sewing machine to me. It is a Dressmaker Special sold by Leonard Brothers and it is over 50 years old.

It was given to Judy many years ago from her aunt. Judy knows that I do a lot of sewing and since she no longer sews, wanted me to have it. It is a little dusty, but it works. My plan is to clean it up, rewire the electrical plug, and build a new base out of oak!

Happy 6th Birthday Charlie!

I want to wish a very happy birthday to my grandson Charlie! He will be six years old tomorrow. This little guy is an excellent ice skater and he scored two goals in a hockey game this past weekend. I am so proud of him. He is in kindergarten in Austria and speaks/writes German like a native...oh wait he is a native....he was born in Austria! I am so very proud of him.

Blanket for Reed

Last night I finished this crocheted blanket for Reed. It is varigated yellow/white/green and has plenty of little "holes" in it for his fingers and toes. He loves it when he can stick his fingers through the pattern.

Here is a picture of "blue eyes" looking like he just woke up! My SIL is dropping him off at my office today at 3:30 pm and I will be taking him home for the weekend. He is going to supervise while I sew him a new dragon quilt from the embroidered blocks from Auntie Barb!

A big thanks to my dear generous friend Barb for sending me not 1, not 2, but 12 beautiful dragon embroideries. How awesome are these? Barb did such a fantastic job, I just love them.

I purchased this Dragon Tales fabric to use with them. I am not sure how I am going to set them, maybe on point...but I smile everytime I look at them....and so will REED! Thanks again Barb.

This weekend I managed to get Reed's sweater finished. I tried it on him on Saturday and it fits, as long as I roll up the sleeves a little. He is growing like a weed.

I am thrilled to share that Miss Madison finished 3rd in her ice skating competition this past weekend. She just turned 8 years old 12/30 and this is her first competition of the year! I am so very proud of her. She was so excited she wanted to Facetime (video chat) immediately after the competition. Yes, that is the skating costume I made for her last fall....she looks so beautiful.

I took another drastic step this weekend. I cut 6 inches off the length of my hair...now it is just above my shoulder...has not been this short in about 10 years...so far still sitting on the fence if I like it or not!

It is remarkable how fast time flies. This little guy is already 13 weeks old! Tuesday was his first day at daycare and he loved it. He was in awe of the other two babies! He is lucky to be able to go to work with his daddy, whose workplace just so happens to have an on-site day care. Chris sends Shannon (mommy) and I at least one picture a day of him enjoying his new surroundings.

I have been very busy finishing up Reed's crocheted hooded sweater and an afghan for his crib. I am also crocheting an afghan for myself using some of the softest yarn ever. I can never seem to start just one crochet project, I always seem to have at least two or more going at the same time...guess it is because I get bored with repetition.

I am excited to announce that I am finishing my courses to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer for the county I live and a neighboring county. I have 2 more courses and several court room observations before I receive my first case. This has been a dream of mine for many years and now I have the time and energy to pursue this dream. This volunteer position will be in addition to my full time job.

My goal for 2012 is to spend more time with family, serve my community, and enjoy life! I will post as often as possible.

Now that the holidays are winding down, I find that I am busier than ever. It is time for me to step back, evaluate my life, and plan for 2012 and beyond.

There will be big changes, a second career, less blogging and Facebook, and more time for me to share with my daughters and grandkids. With that being said, I find that I won't be posting very much, but when there is time, I will continue to catch up with what is going on with my blogging friends. Wishing everyone a happy and prosperious New Year!

Secret Santa hits a grand slam!

Today I received the most awesome package from my Secret Santa. She has hit a grand slam! My SS must have read my blog because she sent me a YARD of silky fabric to make more Infinity scarves!!!! I love polka dots and this fabric is so colorful, I am doing the happy dance. The fabric was in this very cute snowman box that has snow on the top. I also received the red softy socks, a snowman spoon holder, snack size snickers (gone) and this wonderful calendar featuring beagles. I love, love, love everything, thank you so much. All I need to do is figure out who she is...I know she is from OK...so the search is on.

Christmas Quilt Show Winner

Fondest Christmas Memory

I have many fond Christmas memories from when I was a child. Growing up in a family of five kids to young parents, our Christmas gifts were limited to one "Christmast list" item and then socks/underwear. I remember one very special Christmas when I was about 9-10 years old. That year, my Christmas list consisted of a transistor radio...that is all I wanted.

Our family tradition was to open gifts early on Christmas morning, then go to my grandparent's house for dinner. We anxiously opened our presents, but sadly no transistor radio. I was very upset, but tried desperately not to let it show.

As we drove the 30 minutes to my grandparents, I fought back the tears. After dinner, we each received our annual gift of pajamas from our grandparents. Grandma did not believe in buying toys, but insisted kids should have a new pair of pjs every year! How she kept track of 16 different sizes is beyond me.

I was sitting by myself watching the younger kids play with their toys, when my dad called me outside. I followed him when he pulls out this small wrapped gift. He hands the gift to me and says, "I should have given this to you this morning, but I did not want the other kids to see it. I wanted this to be something you will always remember. This is a special gift for helping your mother and taking care of the younger kids". I tore off the wrapper to find the most beautiful black transistor radio I had every seen. That Christmas was definately one I always remember.

Holiday Party Time

Saturday was the annual DFW Gang holiday party and I want to say a big THANK YOU to Quilt Among Friends for allowing our group to use not only their classroom, but also their kitchen. This is our sixth year and we just love these get togethers. We play games, exchanged gifts, had a potluck lunch, and workwd on projects.

One the left side of the room is Brenda, Marje, and Dorothy. On the right side of the room is Jan, Cousin Kay, Julie K (yes that Julie K with her head turned), and Robin. I was sitting at the end of the tables between Jan and Brenda.

At the end of the table was Cousin Sandy and Cousin D'Ann (missing) talking with Cousin Kay. Yes I am happy to say that three of my cousins are part of our little sewing group. Reed was the star of the party. He loved all the attention he was given by all his "aunties". He even helped Brenda play one of the fat quarter games...that boy already loves fabric!

Fantastic new friends, yummy food, fun games, great white elephant gift exchange, and wonderful conversations. I wish you could have joined us!

Santa baby and some sewing!

I just had to share this picture of my little Santa baby Reed. He is all decked out and ready to visit Santa! It is so hard to believe that he is already 9 weeks old....you are growing up too fast.

Last night, I did make the Kindle cover from the pattern my friend Sheryl designed. It took me less than thirty minutes and I love it. Now waiting to get the Kindle in the mail today.

I also finished this holiday pillow. It will be a giftie for one of the games at tomorrow's DFW Gang holiday party! Wish you all could come join us.

Bought a Kindle Touch

I finally did it, I bought myself a Kindle Touch. I have been reviewing all the Kindles for a long time and finally made the plunge and ordered one. I will be getting it tomorrow and I am very excited.

I usually don't read very much, mostly when I am going to bed and need some down time. But, a friend turned me onto this and the fact that you can get FREE books and inexpensive books...including cookbooks!

Dear friend Sheryl shared her pattern for a quilted Kindle cover...so I plan on making one when I get home from work today...so it will be ready when my new TOY arrives tomorrow. So...do you have a Kindle??? If so, what do you think of it and do you have any tips or tricks???

Thanksgiving was a true blessing. My mother felt up to letting me curl her hair, she confiscated the infinity scarf from around my neck, and she even had enough strength to hold her great-grandson Reed. My awesome brother George cooked the entire meal, and I brough the pies. We had a wonderful day.

On Friday, I hit the sewing room with a vengance as I needed to finish up some projects for the upcoming DFW Gang holiday party on Dec. 3rd. I am happy to say all prizes and gifties are finished, packaged and ready for Saturday.

Saturday morning, my BFF Jan and her hubby, Maynard met for breakfast at IHOP and then on to Joanns for some fantastic sales. We each picked up the last two 10 drawer organizers and various other great deals. After Joanns we parted and I went on to JC Penneys to buy the last of the holiday presents. I am so happy to be finished with holiday shopping. Sunday was a rest day and I did manage to crochet Madsion a new set of leg warmers with a hair band to match! So how was your weekend????

As you well know, I am obsessed with making infinity scarves. Why you ask? Because I work in a professional environment where the dress code is business casual. My attire is usually a sweater/blouse and solid colored slacks....and an infinity scarf. I can't tell you how many times I get compliments on my scarves, not only from my female but my male colleagues as well. I have even given them away right off my neck to an adoring colleague. There is nothing like a colorful infinity scarf to "dress" up casual attire.

I have also fallen in love with Anna Marie Horner's Little Folks voile fabrics. For those not familiar with "voile", it is a soft lightweight fabric usually cotton or a cotton blend. Today I hit the jackpot. I found these fabrics on sale for half price from Emerald City Fabrics on Ebay. I bought a yard of six different fabrics (these included) for $8.77 yd, which will make 2 scarves...one for me and one for a gift.

Weekend Sewing Frenzy

My weekend turned into a UFO finishing frenzy. Friday, I had lunch with DD#1 Shannon and my grandson Reed. He was so good at the restaurant and I got to give him lots of kisses and hugs. When I got home that night, I tore apart my sewing room, cleaned, arranged, re-arranged, sorted, re-sorted, threw away...you know what I mean!

Saturday the sweat shop was open for business. First of all, I knew it was time to tackle all the UFOs I had "found" during the cleaning frenzy. I started with five (5) flannel receiving blankets and ten (10) flannel bibs for Reed. After this, it was time to finish last year's holiday pillow cases...five of those finished.

Since I was on a roll, I decided to finish the twelve (12) infinity scarves that I had cut out a few months ago...and I am so proud to say I have finished them ALL! Next came two (2) holiday pillows that will be gifts at the holiday party this year, and some mug rug gifties for the ladies in my office. By this time it was midnight and time for bed.

When I got up Sunday, I wanted nothing to do with the sewing room. I decided to finish hand embroidering the last block of Polka Dot Girls. It took me all day, but I finally finished this series of blocks that I started over 3 years ago. Now I can focus on getting all the blocks put into a quilt for myself. I swear I will never start another of these BOM embroidery quilts for as long as I live. So...what did you do this weekend!

600th post and a giveaway!

This morning I put everyone's name into a candy dish and sat it on the coffee table. Next thing I know, Holly had tipped over the candy dish and one lone piece of paper fell onto the carpet. I took this as an opportunity and declared the name on this piece of paper the winner....BREN email me your address and congratulations!

This post is my 600th post....hard to imagine when I started this blog in July 2007 that in a little over 4 years I would have written this many posts. To celebrate, I am giving away this 30 fat quarter pack Taza by Dena Designs. I won these fat quarters in September, and although the fabrics are lovely, I don't see me using them in the near future....so I wanted to "pay it forward" and share with you!

A little crocheting

Some of you have been asking what pattern I am using to make the hooded cable sweater for Reed. Here is a picture/link to the pattern which is free on free-crochet.com website. You may have to register, but there are lots of free patterns.

I crocheted this pattern at least three other times, once for Madison (pink), Charlie (white), and a friend's baby (yellow) and this one will be in blue for Reed.

It is about this time every year where I get tired of sewing/quilting and pick up my crochet needles. I have been crocheting for over 45 years, starting when I was ten years old. My grandmother sat me down in front of her instructed me in how to crochet. She would tell me how much she loved to see me work because I did it backwards! Yes I am left-handed and she was in awe of how I learned so quickly from a right-handed person.

Back in the Sewing Saddle

Today I had a date in my sewing room. It felt awesome to be back in the sewing saddle again. My dear friend Barb sent me some of her pumpkin, acorn, and leaf die-cuts left over from her table runners. I used them along with some scraps to make this awesome wallhanging for my office. Thanks again Barb!

Then I used some leftover blocks from a holiday Ritzy Cracker lap quilt to make this pillow for my sofa.

Finally I used the last of my silky fabrics to make a few scarves....for me! I plan on sewing a few more scarves for holiday gifts! After sewing these scarves, I started a crocheted hooded sweater for Reed. So far, I have both sleeves finished and starting on the body.

Still fighting this sinus infection! Besides going to work each day I have done nothing this week except sleep. Today I am feeling much better, hopefully the weekend will prove to be restful enough that I will be back to normal. Here are a couple pictures of the grandkids.

Reed is having fun in his swing. Today he is five weeks old and loving life. He sleeps between 4-5 hours at a time and is already over 11 pounds.

Charlie is all decked out in his hockey gear anxiously waiting to take the ice in his next hockey tournament. In the last tournament, he scored 5 goals (the only ones scored). It was almost a double hat trick!

Madison could not wait to try on the new costume for her January ice skating competition. The box that I sent with this costume went around the world, going from Texas to Austria via AUSTRALIA. Yes you read that right, the box went to Australia first before being forwarded on to Austria thanks the the wonderful USPS.

No sewing for me!

No sewing for me! I have been fighting a sinus infection for the last week and it has really kicked my butt. I have not done any sewing or embroidery for at least a week or longer. I was off work and in bed for 2.5 days... and spent the entire weekend in my pjs on the sofa.

I am anxious to feel better so I can finish existing projects and maybe start working on new projects. Our little Reed was one month old yesterday and had his first checkup today. He is now over 11 pounds and is 22 1/2 inches long. The doctor said he was doing fantastic and in the 75th percentile. Here he is all decked out and ready for Halloween!

After spending the weekend with Reed, once I got home today, I decided it was time to get to a little sewing. I made two of these blocks, Paths and Stiles from Quilter's Cache for a comfort quilt for an online friend. I love how these blocks look and I am planning an entire quilt around this block.

Then I finished sewing the remaining Ritzy Cracker blocks from the Sherry Berry Holiday charm packs I was gifted from Julie. I started these blocks in August and I am just now getting around to finishing them.

After I finished all the Ritzy Cracker blocks, I decided to start sewing these Schnibbles Gentle Art blocks from Moda Nature's Gift charm packs. I just love the Schnibbles patterns and I am blessed have been gifted many of them from Sinta and Darlene.

Fall Table Runner

At work today, my admin and I somehow got to talking about fall colors, decorations, and table runners. She mentioned how much she loves fall colors and because her dining table is small, she has trouble finding table runners that are not too long.

Tonight with our conversation still fresh in my mind, I pulled out my scraps and whipped up this table runner. It is about 9" wide and 24" long. I made it with the quilt as you go method exactly how I make my mug rugs. I can't wait to give it to her tomorrow as I know she will be competely surprised.

Samoan Prints

Last night I decided I needed another wall hanging in my office. A few weeks ago, dear friend Barb gifted me a jelly roll of Samoan fabrics. She is so generous, I just love her!

These fabrics are so bright and cheery. I sewed enough of these blocks to not only make a wall hanging, but to also make a lap quilt. All I need to do now is some quilting, binding and it will be on my wall by early next week.

Missing the grandkids

Today I am really missing my DD#2 Melissa and the grandkids. Madison (7) and Charlie (5) are in Dornbirn, Austria until March, so I won't get to see them until they come back to the US. This is a picture of them this past weekend, they are growing up so fast.

Reed is hanging out in his swing after a big breakfast. Luckily, I will see this little guy and DD#1 Shannon come the weekend.

The top picture is of my "girls" when they were little. Shannon (L) was 4 and Melissa (R) was 3, wearing summer dresses that I made for them. The picture on the bottom is 2 1/2 years ago at Shannon's wedding. I would give a fortune to have one more day with them when they were little.

Weekend at Grandma's

It is wonderful to have DD#1 Shannon and Reed to visit for the weekend. This morning we met my BFF Jan and her hubby Maynard for breakfast. It was so wonderful to show off Reed and visit my my friends. Reed was unimpressed as he slept the entire time. After breakfast, we said goodbye to Jan & Maynard...and we took Reed on his first shopping trip.

A trip to both Kohls and JC Penneys was in order, and he slept through all of the commotion. After a diaper change he spent some awake time in the bouncy seat before having lunch, and back to sleep.

DD#1 has gone to a baby shower for a friend. Reed is sleeping, and I am hand sewing more scarves! This is a picture of my DD#1 Shannon before she left for the baby shower, and her son Reed, I think he looks like her!

Ice Skating Costume and Special Thanks

Tonight I finished the last hand sewing on Madison's ice skating costume. She has competition later next month, but I wanted to make sure it got to Austria long before just in case alternations need to be made. DD#2 Melissa bought a costume that had a bolero and pants. I tore apart the pants and made a dress out if it. This dress is the base of the outfit, and the second picture below shows what the costume looks like when the bolero is put on over the dress. This was challenging to say the least!

I also want to give a special thanks to everyone who sent cards to my mother. She received over 40 cards and she was overwhelmed with all the get well wishes. She is still in the hospital after going to a rehab facility last weekend...for one day! Last Saturday she was released to a rehab facility, but Sunday she was rushed back to the hospital due to very low blood sugar and more pneumonia. Tomorrow she is going to be moved to a pulmonary rehab center for 10 days. She is finally feeling much better.

Tomorrow, DD#1 Shannon will be bringing baby Reed to visit for the weekend. I plan on giving her all the help she needs so she can get some rest. Being a new mom is taking its toll on her and I am glad to be able to help out. Reed is such a good baby and I can't wait to hold him again.

I spent yesterday with my nine-day old grandson, Reed. He is amazing...eats 4 oz, sleeps 4 hours, repeat! He hardly cries at all, except when you change his diaper. He is so adorable and I just love holding him. He is such a good baby.

This morning, I started working on Madison's current ice skating costume. All I need to do now is sew the ruffles onto the skirt and add the sequence to the waist...and it will be finished.

I also finished my double pinwheel wall hanging. Once I quilt this, it will hang on the wall in my office. FYI, I have not finished all my scarves, I am still working on another nine, but they will be Christmas presents, so I can't post pictures.

Infinity Scarves

Tonight I wanted to try to make an infinity scarf. An infinity scarf is one long continuous circle of fabric that you wrap around you neck a couple of times. I found this fantastically easy infinity scarf tutorial on The Cottage Home blog. Within an hour, I had made these three scarves.

I modified the cutting instructions from what Lindsay posted. I purchased 1/2 yard of fabric that was 58-60" wide. I cut my 2 pieces 9" wide instead of 12". Then I followed the directions provided in the tutorial. I am very pleased with the results!

I also found a wonderful video on three ways to wear your infinity scarf.

I want to thank everyone who sent my mother get well cards. I spoke to her today and my dad brought them to the hospital, all 37 of them. You guys are the best and I can't thank you enough for all the well wishes. Although she must remain in the hospital another week, she was actually laughing and loved reading all your get well messages.

I also must apologize for not posting the winners of the scarf giveaway on Friday. My daughter was induced on Friday and it has been such a busy weekend. The winners are Carol, Michele, and Mary please email me your address and I will get each of you a scarf in the mail this week.

REED has arrived. After an eight (8) hour labor, my DD#1 delivered an 9.8 pound, 21 1/4 inch baby boy on Friday 9/30 @ 5:30 pm. Both mommy and baby are doing fantastic. They are going home today.

I have a very special request from all my blogging friends. My mother has been in the hospital since Sunday 9/18. She has a myriad of medical issues, with COPD and bronchitis currently causing her the greatest pain. She also had a blood clot in her leg that luckily they were able to dissolve. I just spoke to her and she is very depressed. We are hoping she can come home either Thursday or Friday.

Okay, I admit it...I need HELP! My OCD has kicked in big time and I once again made the mistake of going to my very favorite fabric outlet. Do you see all this fabric...enough for 14 scarves and I paid....$14.75 for it all including tax.

So far I have sewn 6 scarves each for myself and my friend from work, I have another 5 each cut out and ready, and now with these fabrics...another 6 each!

I am loving how these scarves accent my wardrobe and wearing them actually make me feel more attractive......go figure! LOL

I had fun day today. It started with shopping at Kohls and JC Penneys for new fall blouses, then to Joanns for needles, etc. While at Joanns I was rummaging through the remnants and found a yard of this butterfly fabric. I previously made two scarves from this very same fabric. The remnant was only $3.50 ($12.99 regular price)...and I will make four (4) scarves from this piece. I will giveaway three (3) of these scarves, so if you want one, just leave me a comment. I will announce the winners on Friday morning.

After shopping, I quilted this quilt which is a gift to a colleague's daughter's wedding next week. The binding is on but not stitched down. I will stitch the binding while watching the Amazing Race tonight.

While at Joann's, I made the mistake of looking at the silky fabrics, which were 50% off...and came home with five (5) more pieces for $17. I will make two of each for a total of 10 more scarves! You can't beat ten (10) scarves for $17...or to think of it, 14 scarves for $20.50 (including the butterfly fabric). All 14 of the scarves have been prepped (1/4" stitch all the way around) and ready for a rolled hand-stitched finish.

From Shoo Fly to Pinwheels

Tonight I had some time in the sewing room and wanted to use these beautiful Hopscotch fat quarters from Red Rooster that were gifted to me from my BFF Jan and her daughter. I started out thinking I wanted to make Shoo Fly blocks, and make one.

But....after playing around with the half square triangles...I was leaning towards making pinwheels...but I wanted to use 9 blocks instead of traditional 4 block pinwheels.

This is what I came up with...and I am loving how these look! I can't wait to finish all the blocks, rearrange them and see what happens!

Well, I finally finished the twelve (12) scarves that I started last week. I started with six (6) half yards of silks and made two (2) of each. Here are the last six I finished. Today I gifted my colleague with one of each...and she took me out to lunch @ Olive Garden...yummmmm.

In addition to hand stitching all these scarves, I also traced this Scarecrow in Wheelbarrow by Bird Brain Designs onto the background. Hopefully, I can get this started before retreat the last weekend of this month.

Tonight, I finished hand stitching the 13th scarf...one of the butterflies on the left for a special friend. She has no idea it is coming, but I am sure she will love it.

Weekend Sewing

I had a wonderful weekend. On Saturday I visited with my parents to celebrate my mother's 71st birthday. We went on our annual shopping trip to Kohls for her some new clothes. After shopping, I stopped over to DD#1 Shannon's house to help with a little nesting. We rearranged and put away baby clothes, hung up the letters R-E-E-D on the wall above the bed, and other odds and ends. Reed is due anytime, hoping he wants until after this weekend as I have a sew date on Saturday!

Once I arrived back to my house, the first thing I did was finish sewing this silk scarf. You can't tell from the picture, but this fabric has very small sparkly rhinestones on it. I am wearing it today with black slacks, turquoise sweater and black blazer.

After finishing the scarf, I decided today was going to be a day of finishes. The next thing to finish off were eight (8) of the fourteen (14) Pick-A-Pocket bags that I had previously attached the handles. It took me all of Saturday, but I got them finished.

Sunday morning I finished sewing the handles on the remaining six (6) bags. All that is needed is to sew the backs to the fronts and these bags will be finished also. It felt so good to get these projects completed. I also traced two (2) new fall embroidery patterns...and cut out three (3) new scarves...can't wait to get started on them!

Working with Silk

Earlier this week a colleague was wearing one of the most beautiful scarfs I had ever seen. Now, I am not much of a fashionista and rarely wear scarfs...but this colleague challenged me to make a couple of silk scarves!

I went to Joann's and found silk on sale for 30% off. I bought a half yard of three fabrics. A half yard will make 2 scarves so I will be making a total of six.

Today, I am proudly wearing black slacks, red shirt, black blazer and this scarf! I look amazing (according to my colleague). I gave the autumn colored scarf to my colleague and she is in LOVE! Over the last few nights, I have HAND SEWN (silk really crawls) two of each of these and started on one of the third ones! I think I am hooked and now have learned a little more about fashion (rolling my eyes).

Stitching but not sewing....

I did very little sewing this weekend. However, I did manage to sew together my yellow/black/grey Picnic quilt top on Saturday. My cousins: Kay, Sandy & D'Ann joined me at Cabbage Rose quilt shop for a sit and sew. We had a great time and I just love Cabbage Rose and Karen O'Neill (owner)! They had a fantastic sale and I bought several yards of Nicey Jane fabric and several Moda charm packs.

Although I have not done much sewing, I have been embroidering up a storm. I recently purchased this Redwork Snow People pattern from Bird Brain Designs at Connecting Threads and have already stitched up 3 of the six snowpeople. I recently started using DMC #8 pearle cotton instead of the six-strand thread and I LOVE IT. I love it so much that I bought 50 different balls in 50 different colors on ebay...I don't think I will ever go back to the six-strand tread again. Why am I stitching so much...our DFW Gang holiday party will be here in early December and I am getting a head start some of the gifties!

National Sewing Month

Wow, it is already September...where did the year go? I noticed today that September is National Sewing Month. There is even a web page dedicated to this.

A few weeks ago, I won these beautiful Pumpkin Patch Plaids fat quarters from Andover Fabrics ...are they not yummy? I am really in love with several of the new fabric lines from Andover Fabrics.

My plans for September is to sew a log cabin quilt with these lovelies for myself! I have a couple skating dresses planned for Madison and a couple other embroidery patterns I want to get finished before the holidays. So, what do you have planned for National Sewing Month?

Fun in the Sewing Room

What a fun time I had this weekend in my sewing room. After spending Saturday morning thrifting with my cousin Kathy, the evening was spent sewing the handles on to seven (7) of the bags I previously cut out. Now all that is needed is to sew the front/backs together and they will be finished.

Today I finished the sewing the remaining 50 blocks for my black/yellow/gray Picnic quilt. I really love how easy these blocks sew together. Then I sewed several blocks of a Ritzy Cracker quilt made from Have a Sherri Berry Holiday charm packs that were gifted to me from my dear freind Julie! The fabrics in these charm packs are very pretty, and this quilt will become a surpise holiday gift.

This was a great sew weekend. Yesterday, I made this cute little fall table topper from a Pumpkins Gone Wild charm pack(L), and I finished another holiday wallhanging (R) using beautiful Gail Pan Design pattern.

Today I finished this blue/green/tan quilt top that will become a wedding quilt for a colleagues daughter's wedding in October. This was such an easy pattern, however this picture does not highlight the fabrics very well.

While going through the various tubs of scraps, I decided to give away some 2.5" strips. Would you believe I have three boxes stuffed full! If anyone would like a box please leave me a comment on what you would make from these strips!

I also found a container where I cut out fourteen (yes 14) Pick a Pocket Purse bags...so my goal today is to get started on some of these bags!

Isn't this a beautiful quilt! This is "Tequila Sunrise with a Gaggle" the 2011 Raffle Quilt from the Quilters Guild of Plano. This quilt was inspired by Judy Neimeyer's Glacier Pines Design and has over 4300 pieces....absolutely gorgeous!

The Quilt Plano 2011 quilt show is this Friday and Saturday (8/12 - 8/13) at The Plano Center. My BFF Jan and I are going early Friday morning. We missed the last show in 2009 so we definately wanted to go to this one! I even took the day off from work!

Loving some Lily & Will fabrics

Don't you just love these Lily & Will fabrics by Bunny Hill Designs? I bought both these fat quarter packs because Reed's nursery is in yellow, green and brown. I don't know exactly what I will do with them, but I love the colors.

I have already made a dozen flannel sheets, several wall hangings and lovies, a dozen burp cloths and 2 dozen bibs all in nursery colors....any ideas?

Ribbon quilts for Reed

Tonight I decided I wanted to sew a little after dinner. I had a bag of ribbons, some light blue Minkee, and a Baby Genius charm pack. Within two hours, I had both blankets finished...including top stitching around the perimeters. These were so easy and I can't wait to give one to Reed's other grandma, Darla.

Two weeks ago, I won this Rainbow Zoo by Red Rooster fat quarter pack and panel from Quilter's Newsletter Facebook contest. These fabrics will be available in September, but I have them in my hot little hands and anxious to find a project to use them.

Longing for Fall

Today is the 29th day of 100+ degree weather and the weather forecast for next week is 103-108 degrees every day next week. So today I was longing for fall...and decided to dive into my scraps.

This little wallhanging is Pumpkin Fields by Kate Laucomer and I love it. It is quilt as you go and a fusible applique for the pumpkins. It was so easy to sew, I managed to use scraps, and had it finished in less than 3 hours.

The bottom of the wallhanging got wet when my iron expired and leaked all over the ironing board. One minute I was using it, the next minute it turned itself off and lost it's water. Oh well, time to shop for another iron.

Had a fantastic time with friends and cousins at our sit and sew on Saturday. Cousins Sandy and D'Ann each pick out a charm pack from my stash and once I showed them how to sew a 1/4" seam, they were off and running. This was their first time quilting, but not their first time using a sewing machine. Each of them sewed a 5 X 5 (25" square) wallhanging AND a 2 X 7 (10" X 35") table runner with their charm packs. I believe their are hooked, as each has bought more fabric and picked out a new pattern.

Diaper Bag for Reed

Last night I sewed the last few stitches to finish this diaper bag for Reed. The fabrics are also used in nursery. So having some leftover fabrics, I wanted to make something other than blankets.

The pattern is Baby on the Go Diaper Bag by Bradie Sparrow and is from the Moda Bake Shop. I changed it up a little as I wanted rounded corners instead of a square look. This is a great tutorial and was fairly easy to make...I say fairly because I don't enjoy zippers! There are pockets on each end and pockets on the sides (green fabric). Inside there are no pockets, but is large enough for a day out with Mommy!

I was not confident that this would turn out, so I bought Shannon a very large Jeep diaper bag that includes a changing mat, just in case! Now she has two..one for a quick trip and one to spend the day with Grandma!

Saturday Sew Date

The DFW Gang is having a sew date on Saturday, July 30th @ Quilt Among Friends in Arlington, TX. Two of my cousins are joining us as they want me to teach them how to quilt. I have a simple wall hanging/table runner planned and will bring several charm packs for them to choose from. If you are in near Arlington, TX come join us.

I will be sewing another couple ribbon quilts for Reed in the Baby Genius Grow Up fabrics.
There are 50 5" X 5" charms which I plan on making into two identical ribbon quilts, one for me and one for Reed's paternal grandmother, Darla.

I also have a figure skating dress cut out for Madison, this time in purple!

Love at first sight!

Oh my goodness, the advances in technology since my oldest DD Shannon was born. On Saturday, Shannon, SIL Chris, his mother, Darla and I spent an hour watching our beautiful little Reed on a 60" screen. (Yes it is definately a boy)!

We saw him smile, stick his tongue out, wrinkle his nose, move his arms over his face, kick his feet, and make some of the most adorable faces...all within the womb. Both Darla and I had tears in our eyes as we ooohhhed and ahhhed over this marvel. It is so hard to believe that in the next 6-8 weeks, we will be able to hold this little guy... For both Darla and myself, it was love at first sight!

Keeping busy

I have been keeping myself busy the last couple days with cutting out more ice skating dresses for Madison. This is the latest finish, I just love how soft the crushed velvet feels. I have three (3) more cut out and hope to get them all finished before August.

I have been sewing flannel crib sheets for unborn grandson Reed's nursery. They are so easy to sew and I can make 3 of them for the cost of buying just one! I have made 3 crib sheets so far with another 5 cut out.

I found this really cute Cars panel on sale...so I joined it with a light blue Minkie on the back...and now grandson Charlie has a new blanket. I have not sewn anything for me..but that is okay...I love sewing for the grands!

What I have been working on!

So what have I been working on? Oh a little of this and a little of that. Facebook friends, you have already seen these! This past weekend I finished up a new ice skating dress for Madison. The dress about kicked my butt because of the stretchy material and all the bling!

I also made a Ritzy Cracker baby blanket, embroidered a little onsie, crocheted two fleece blankets, and made 22 flannel bibs for Reed! These will all stay at grandma's house! I love being able to sew and make things for my children and grand children.

I have two more ice skating dresses cut out for Madison, but I am using crushed velvet so it won't take too long to get them finished. The time-consuming part will be detailing with sequins and rhinestones!

Poor Charlie...I have not found something I can make for him. I asked him if he wanted me to make him a new blankie (yeah he is 5, but still sleeps with the original blankie I made him when he was born)..and he told me, "Oh grandma, that would be nice...but it just would not be the same"!

Eight Point Star Applique Pillow

I wanted to make an eight-point star for a long time...but I hated set-in seams. So I was very excited to try out the Accquilt GO! Parallelogram die to try out an alternative to set-in seams by appliquing my star to a background.

You will need:
1/2 yard for the star points
14" square of background fabric
1/4 yard for the borders
3/4 yard for the backing
One 18" pillow form

CUT:
2 - 5" strips from the star points
2 - 3.5" strips from the border fabric
Subcut one strip into 2 - 3.5" X 14" rectangles
Subcut one strip into 2 - 3.5" X 19.5" rectangles
2 - 14.5" X 19.5" rectangles from the backing fabric

Using the 5" strips of the fabric for the star points, use the GO! Parallelgram die to cut 8 parallelgrams. Pair up four sets of 2 star points and sew together. Press the seams open. Now joing two sets of 4 star points and sew together. Finally sew together both sets of four star points to make the star. Press the seams open.

Fold your 14" square of background fabric in half twice, pressing each time to find the center of the square. Using a light weight fusible webbing, center the star and fuse to the background. Now use a zigzag stitch (or any decorative stitch) and matching thread to stitch the edges of the star down to the background square. Press with a dry iron.

Sew two 3.5" X 14" rectangles of border fabrics and sew to opposing sides. Sew the two 14" X 19.5" rectangles to the remaining two sides. Press. The front of the pillow will now be 19.5" square.

Now for the back. Take the two 14" X 19.5" backing pieces and sew a 1/2" hem along one 19.5" edge. Press hem. Lay the front of the pillow face-up on a table. Place one of the back pieces right side down on top of the pillow front with the hem facing the inside. Place the second back piece right side down on top of the pillow front, overlapping the first back piece.

Align the un-hemmed 19.5" edge with the pillow front, pin in place. Stitch all around the pillow using 1/4" seam. Turn inside out and press. If you want a fluffier pillow, topstitch 1/2" around the pillow top using a decorative stitch. Insert 18" pillow form.

Reed's Ribbon Quilt

I recently received a gift package from my dear friend Annie. She is so cleaver, she used all kinds of ribbons and cording as packing material. After thinking about what to do with all these beautiful ribbons, I decided to make a ribbon quilt for my unborn grandson, Reed! I used a Moda Wee Woodlands charm pack, the wonderful ribbons and Minkee on the back!

Today at work, a colleague came to my office with a box in his hands. He knows I am a quilter (my office gives it away), and he had something to show me. In the box was this barely used Singer Model 18024. He said it was his mother's, and she bought it new about 6 years ago. He also shared that while he was cleaning out his mother's things, he found this machine....he thought of me!

He wanted to give it to me, but I insisted on at least giving him $25. This machine is awesome. It has 47 stitches, in pristine shape, and sews like a dream.

Little Quilt Giveaway

I spent the morning with my dear friend Jan and her hubby Maynard at the Mesquite Quilt Show. The show was smaller than I remembered and the vendors were slim pickings. After the quilt show, we went to another quilt shop that advertised 25% off fabrics with their ad in the quilt show brochure. I found an adorable dinosaur panel and coordinating fabrics for a cute quilt for grandson-to-be Reed!

Once I got home, I finished putting together these yellow/blue blocks for another Easy Peasy quilt. The picture does not do it justice as the fabrics are really beautiful.

Once that top was finished, I started on a few of these little quilts (10" X 28") to celebrate July 4th next week. A colleague asked me to make him one of these after he saw the one I have hanging on my office wall. Well, I actually made three of them...and they are all finished and ready for giving away.

Now for the disclaimer: I quilted these little quilts using the stitch in the ditch pattern...and I am sorry to say I am have not perfected this method.......so I you don't mind that the quilting is not perfect...leave me a comment telling me what you would do with this little quilt...and I will draw a name on Monday evening. I will get this in the mail to the winner on Tuesday so you will have it for the holiday weekend!

This is how I spent my Friday...sewing this adorable Quilt 4 Kids quilt. The monkeys are so cute and anyone who knows me...knows how much I love lime green! Over the last two years I have made a dozen of these quilts from the Quilt 4 Kids kits.

After finishing this quilt top, I finished sewing these Easy Peasy Simply Strippy blocks from Silent Cinema fabric. This fabric is awesome and I have another top planned using this fabric line. I plan to quilt both of these on Sunday! So tell me, what did you do on this fine Friday night?

Busy busy weekend

Saturday I started the morning quilting these three quilts. The brown/green one is made exclusively with the minkie fabrics including the backing. I has some of the backing left over and decided to make a small pillow to match. The zoofari quilt is made from a panel I picked up while on vacation.

The Ritzy Cracker quilt is made from a packets of 80 Nicey Jane charm squares. The green swirl backing was gifted to me from my dear friend Annie. The Ritzy Cracker pattern is quickly becoming one of my favorites as I love how it showcases the fabrics.

Today, I will be going to Fort Worth to visit with my parents, then to a cousin's luncheon. There will be 10 of us girl cousins, some I have not seen in over 20 years! It should be a fun time....and I made each one a quilted picture frame from Allie's pattern...with a photo of our grandparents when they were young! It should be a fun time.

Sunday I finished sewing together the blocks for my latest Summer Breeze from Kim Brackett's Scrap Basket Surprises. This is one of my favorite patterns. These fabrics, Surf & Sand, are left over from another project that I recently found.

I also wanted to brighten up my family room and so I made four new 14" square pillows. I love polka dots, yellow and of course lime green!

Back from vacation

I am back from vacation and so glad to be home. Today is the first day I felt like sewing. My darling grand-daughter Madison called and told me how much she loved the dresses I sent her and would I make her a few more...well what could I do...I made 3 more!

The wedding was beautiful and everything went as planned. Here is a picture of the bride, groom, her father & I. I really hate pictures, and although I have lost 46 pounds and am wearing a dress 3 sizes smaller...somehow I thought I would look thinner! LOL

Ready for Vacation

Tomorrow DH & I leave for Raystown Resort in PA for his daughter's wedding this weekend. The wedding is on Sunday afternoon, rehersal cookout Friday night, and brunch on Monday Memorial Day. After brunch...we head to Ocean City, MD to the BEACH! We have not been to OC since 2004!
We still stay in OC until Thursday morning. On Tuesday, I am excited to have the opportunity to meet my blogging friend Pat!. Then on Thursday, on our way home, I am thrilled to be meeting another blogging friend Barb!

How awesome is it to go on vacation and get to meet up with not one but two blogging friends. I still treasure the trip to AZ I made in April where I had the pleasure to spend a morning with twin workout/dieting partner Cindy. I cannot thank Cindy enough for all her help, support, and encouragement on "our" weight loss journey.

T-Shirt Dresses for Madison

Yesterday, my DD Melissa asked me if I would make Madison a t-shirt dress. On my way home from work I went to Children's Place and bought 2 t-shirts ($3.50 each on sale), went home and sewed these two little beauties with fabric from my stash.

In less than 1.5 hours I had both dresses made and ready to hem. I really like the way they came out and I am looking forward to making many more!

Pets on Quilts Show

Sweet Hearts Snap Sack Quilt

Today was a wonderfully busy day. I started out the morning working on a Sweet Hearts Snap Sack wallhanging. I purchased Sweet Hearts and Party Cake kits online on clearance for $5 each. Although I am not normally into pastels, this little quilt went together every easily and it contained everything needed: pattern, fabric, binding, backing, except batting. I sewed, layered and pinned Sweet Hearts before going to brunch.

DH and I decided to go out to brunch and then to the movies. We saw Johnny Depp in latest Pirates of the Carribean movie. After a quick trip to Wal-Mart, we came home and I finished quilting and binding Secret Hearts. I really like this pattern and will be making Sweet Hearts again from stash for quick gift.

I found some awesome fabric buys and I just have to share. I received catalog from Connecting Threads and saw that some of their solids were on sale for $2.96 a yard (40% off), and some were regular price $4.96 a yard! I am always in need of background and coordinating fabrics so I purchased some Sandstone, Ash, and Gray, Sun, Sprout, and Cornflower! I also had a coupon, and received free shipping, so it was a GREAT buy!

I have been looking for Silent Cinema fabrics from Free Spirit. At Quilt Asylum they had the pink colorway, but I wanted the yellow/grey (go figure) colorway which they did not have. I decided to look on Fabric.com and they had the fabrics I wanted, each were under $9 a yard, and I also had a coupon and got free shipping! How awesome is this!

This morning I had the pleasure of having breakfast with my BFF Jan. After breakfast, we went to Quilt Asylum and then Happiness Is for shopping and so that Jan could drop off fifteen (15) quilts for Project Linus. I found some awesome yellow/grey fabrics "Eclipse" from Exclusively Quilters at 40% off. My new favorite color is "grey".

This wedding quilt is now on the frame, bobbins are wound, and the binding is ready for me to quilt this lovely tomorrow. After quilting , I have one week until the wedding to get the binding sewn down and label on.

This afternoon, I finished the remaining 10 picture frames (five of each) for my cousin's luncheon in June. I still have to sew down the bindings, but at least they are all made! I plan to add an old photo of the grandma and grandpa that we share!

Wonderful Mother's Day

We really had a fantastic weekend. I spent Saturday with my cousin Kathy estate sale and antique shopping. We had such fun as we always do when we have a "girls day out". On Sunday, went to my parents to celebrate Mother's Day, my brother George's birthday, and DD#1 Shannon's birthday. The Green Bay Packer quilt was a huge hit, George loved it.

George cooked a fantastic meal and my SIL Chris made the most delicious French Vanilla cake. My brother Rich came in from California, and my sister Paula came over for a little while.
Since my mother got out of the hospital on Saturday morning, she was on cloud nine that her children (minus my missing brother) were all together. This has not happended since their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005. It was so good to see her smiling, chatting, and enjoying herself.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day.

Okay, I am in love with this product. Today I quilted 2 lap quilts, using 15 bobbins...and not one time did my thread break....AND all my stitches on the front AND the back are beautiful!

These Little Genie Magic Bobbin Washers are awesome. You put one into your bobbin casing then put in your bobbin and sew away. This little Teflon washer keeps the underside of your quilt from getting backlash and bird's nests.....especially if you free motion. I am so happy with the results, I just had to share...now to go put the bindings on these beautifully quilted quilts.

* I dislike my Husqvarna Rose embroidery sewing machine, never use the embroidery feature!
* I love the simplicity and how my Singer Featherweight sews.
* I do not care for novelties, plaids, civil war, or using only solids....I use tone on tones.
* I will NEVER participate or host swaps or secret sisters again...I always got burned.
* I do not enjoy applique, but I love hand embroidery.

The last couple days, I have been working on getting these thirty GB Packer 16" star blocks finished. This quilt will be a birthday gift for my brother. Tonight I finished sewing them into this queen size top, and this weekend it will get quilted.

After sewing this top together, I wanted to play around with making a magnetic picture frame from the pattern on Allie's blog.
They are so cute and so easy to make! I will be making a dozen more of these as gifties for a cousin's luncheon in June.

Yes, I am back from vacation and this is my 500th post. I had a fantastic time in Scottsdale with DD#2, SIL and 2 grandkids. While in Scottsdale, I met up with my dear friend Cindy...and she gave the the most gorgeous purse that she made. I just love her.

On Friday, the DFW Quilt Gang met for a sew date and we had a blast. We celebrated Sally and my birthdays. I received some wonderful gifts, thank you girls so much, love them ALL!

Finding lost fabrics

This weekend was wonderful. Saturday, I spent time with my parents, took my mother and daughter shopping and out to lunch. I also finished a Green Bay Packer pillow for my brother and the Chirp wall hanging for DD#1 Shannon. On Sunday, I was going through all my fabric, looking for a border fabric when I found THEM! Several years ago (2008) I was in love with the Sand and Surf line by Marcus Brothers and bought a fat quarter pack and made this quilt. I totally forgot about the left over fat quarters until I found them again. I was so excited that I started cutting out my next project...which for those that know me...will guess what pattern I will be using. Yep, I am making another Summer Breeze from Scrap Basket Surprises by Kim Brackett. This is one of my all-time favorite patterns. The picture on the left is my last one from this pattern. I am leaving on vacation on Thursday, heading to Scottsdale to visit my grand children for a week. I most likely will not be posting until I return. My next post will be my 500th, so look for a BIG giveaway!

Another Ritzy Cracker

Tonight I wanted to sew together the blocks I finished yesterday. I really like this Ritzy Cracker quilt pattern so I decided to make another in Azure Blue Swoon by Melissa Averinos for Andover fabrics. The picture does not do the fabrics justice as they are really bright!

I also cut out all the blocks for the Robert Kaufman Chirp panel quilt, and sewed the first block. This panel is a birth announcement wall hanging that will hang in the new grandbaby's room. My daughter has chosen these yellow/brown/green Chirp fabrics for the nursery.

While fabric shopping on Saturday, I fell in love with the Citron, Black and Grey collection by Michael Miller. I have not decided on a pattern, but whatever one I choose, this quilt is going to be mine!

A Weekend of Finishes!

I had the most wonderfully productive weekend. On Friday, I finished piecing my step-daughter's wedding quilt. This quilt is in sage green, chocolate brown, and tan (her wedding colors). I need to get this quilted before the Memorial Day weekend.

On Saturday, my BFF Jan and I went McKinney to shop at a couple of fabric stores and to have lunch. The first quilt store was having an outside "alley sale" where customers are selling off their stash. There were very few bargains, but I did find this complete Care Bear dress kit that was in the perfect size for Madison and I got it for only $5. I finished sewing it, including hand hemming in about 2 hours.

After finishing Madison's dress, I finished hand quilting the star wall hanging. I am looking forward to hanging this in my office at work.

Today, I used the leftover fabric from Madison's dress to make a matching little doll quilt. I think she is going to love it.

I needed to draft a 16" star block pattern to use in a quilt I am making for my brother George for his birthday in May. He wants a queen size quilt using Green Bay Packer fabrics and GBP fleece on the back. I decided for a quilt this large, I wanted LARGE blocks. This is the sample block, the center star is 16.5" unfinished, and the border is 3.5". I have already pinned and marked this "table topper" (22" square) to hand quilt for a future giveaway!

Sunday night while watching the Amazing Race, I finished stitching this Baltimore Bliss block. I really love how these applique blocks are coming to life being embroidered! I am half way finished six down, six to go.

Last, but certainly not least, I just had to show you a picture of the roses my DH gave me for my birthday. I have never seen roses like these.....they are truly beautiful and I love them.

I have had a wonderful weekend. Saturday was spent celebrating my birthday (3/28) with family. My brother George barbequed and made all the delicious food. My son-in-law Chris made me a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting...yum! Yes I ate a small piece, after all we were celebrating! I also received a beautiful birthstone ring and matching earrings from my parents, a gift card to Joanns from my DD and SIL, and pretty hair accessories from my aunt and cousin. Today, I had the day to myself as DH was attending a fishing tournament. I put the dogs outside this morning and started sewing on my step-daughter's wedding quilt (pics when I finish the last 12 blocks). I looked out the back door, only to find our darling 5 month old, Holly, tearing apart the deck chair! I caught her in the act...she has been punished, and spent an hour in time out in her kennel!

I am a winner...of course you all know that! LOL But seriously, I was visting the Henry Glass Fabrics blog a couple weeks back, and they were having a giveaway of a fat quarter from the new spring line -- Cherry Fizz by Barbara Jones of QuiltSoup.

I thought I was going to win one fat quarter...and as you can see I won 22 fat quarters, one for each fabric in the line. How awesome is this! Now I need suggestions on what pattern to use for these lovlies! If you have any ideas please leave me a comment!

So how did you spend National Quilting Day? I started off the day by sewing together this Ritzy Cracker Quilt by Mary Brown. I used Moda Sugar Pop charm packs and left over fabric from a Moda Natural layer cake. I like this pattern so much, that I already have the next one planned, this time from Nicey Jane fabrics.

Then I quilted these two wallhangings. The one on the right will hang in my kitchen. The stars wallhanging will hang in my office at work.

Everyone who wanted the charms, your name was put into a basket and DH drew Tracy & Terry....I have emailed you both for your mailing addresses...and the charms will go in the mail this weekend.

I have been busy stash busting and making these reversible purses. So far I have sewn 15 of them to donate to the local women's shelter. If you remember last year, I made 125 pillowcases for the same shelter. These bags and pillowcases are an excellent way to stash bust! I have another 9 cut out and ready to stitch.

After cutting out all these bags, I had some scraps left over, so I cut them into 5" charms. I have two packs of approximately 27 fabrics and about 80-100 total charms in each pack. If anyone is interested in some charms, leave me a comment and they are yours!

An update on healthy living....I was not able to excercise most of last week due to DH having medical issues. However, I made up for it yesterday and today. Yesterday, I walked 3 miles biked 3 miles. Today I biked 9 miles....I have to try to keep up with my dear friend Cindy! Although I only lost 2 pounds last week...this week will be better. I heard something about hitting a plateau and I think I hit one...so it is time to up the workouts!

Last night, I finally finished my blue work birdie. I am really enjoying these blocks. If you want to get the patterns, please click on the button on my sidebar.

My DH finished building me this fantstic sewing cabinet on Monday. This is my Christmas present! The top opens up and folds out expanding to the left, doubling the sewing space, and my sewing machine will sit down into the cabinet.

The picture below is the cabinet opened showing the thread holder and the drawers. I am so proud of him as he has never attempted such a large project.

Yesterday, DH and I hung the finished Tribute to Dale Earnhardt quilt for the game room. He requested this quilt as the final touch to his "man cave".

Saturday was a cold windy day, so I spent most if it inside the house stitching. The star block on the left is for the Moda challenge I wrote about in my last post. I made four of these for Moda and four for me to make into a wallhanging.

The stitchery on the right is the latest block of Baltimore Bliss. I am really enjoying sewing these blocks. I also caught a picture of DH and Holly this afternoon. She likes to sit on his shoulder while he is using the computer!

Today I visited with my parents, DD#1 Shannon and SIL Chris. While visiting, I finished sewing the latest redwork Birdie block. The bluework Birdie block has been started and I should finish it in the next day or so.

If you noticed my weight loss ticker....I have finally lost 30 pounds! Tomorrow evening I will post a giveaway to celebrate.

Just One Star

While reading the Moda The Cutting Table newsletter I came across a challenge from Moda called Just One Star can comfort a soldier. "The Moda challenge is to piece, quilt and bind 100 quilts in 100 days using the Flag of Valor pattern by Minick and Simpson." Moda needs 1800 star blocks to reach this goal. The deadline for star blocks is May 1, 2011 so that they can meet their quilt deadline by Flag Day, June 14, 2011. You send completed blocks to Moda at the address in the link.

There is a tutorial/pattern for stars. Won't you consider making one...or two...or more?

Saturday was a wonderful sew date with the DFW Quilt Gang at Quilt Among Friends in Arlington. I finished two of four blocks for the Sunkissed Squares from Moda Bake Shop. I am using Lime Green Swoon by Melissa Averinos.

Today, after my workout, I quilted my DH's Tribute to Dale Earnhardt quilt, complete with the binding. I also finished block #4 from my Baltimore Bliss BOM.

We had a scare with baby Holly. On Saturday she received her first rabies shot. When DH got her home from the vet, he noticed her eyes were swelling shut and her breathing was become a wheeze. He rushed her back to the vet and they gave her another 2 shots to counteract the fact that she was allergic to the rabies shot. We also had to give her baby Benedryl last night, and today she is back to her normal self.

After working out tonight, I was able to finish embroidering block #3 of Baltimore Bliss. I love how these blocks are coming along. Tonight I will start block #4.

Today we had rain most of the day, but I was lucky enough to snap a photo of Holly when there was a break in the clouds. She is really growing up fast...almost 4 months old.

Nothing tastes as good as being thinner feels!
